Norsepower: Leading the Way in Wind Propulsion Technology

Why Choose Norsepower Rotor Sails?
- Proven Fuel Savings: Under optimal wind conditions, Norsepower Rotor Sails can achieve fuel savings of up to 70%, making them an incredibly efficient solution for reducing operational costs. On average, the fuel savings range between 5% to 20%, providing significant cost benefits across various operational profiles.
- Environmental Benefits: By harnessing wind power, Norsepower Rotor Sails significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This technology supports compliance with international regulations such as the IMO’s Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) and the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI). The system can help reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80 megatons annually if widely adopted.
- Versatile and Adaptable: The Rotor Sails can be installed on new vessels or retrofitted onto existing ships, including tankers, bulk carriers, cruise ships, RoRo ships, general cargo ships, and ferries. The tiltable Rotor Sail design even allows for installation on vessels that navigate under bridges and powerlines, ensuring that the technology can be adapted to various operational requirements.
- Automatic and Easy to Use: The system is fully automated, requiring minimal input from the crew. It detects when wind conditions are favorable and activates the Rotor Sails to provide thrust, reducing the need for engine power and saving fuel. This ease of use ensures that the technology integrates smoothly into existing maritime operations.
- Third-Party Verified Performance: The performance and benefits of Norsepower Rotor Sails have been verified by independent organizations such as ABB, NAPA, and Lloyd’s Register.
Client Success Stories
- Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) and Airbus: French shipowner Louis Dreyfus Armateurs will install Norsepower Rotor Sails on a new low-emission RoRo fleet to be chartered to Airbus. The new vessels, used to ship aircraft components, will be powered by a combination of six 35-meter tall Norsepower sails and two dual-fuel engines running on maritime diesel oil and e-methanol. This fleet is expected to reduce fuel consumption significantly, resulting in approximately 50% fewer CO2 emissions by 2030 compared to 2023 levels. The ships will achieve substantial fuel savings with the advanced routing software and Norsepower’s Sentient Control system.
- SC Connector: This RoRo vessel, operating in the North Sea, has been equipped with Norsepower’s largest tiltable Rotor Sails, achieving significant emissions reductions of up to 25%.
- Maersk Pelican: During a one-year trial period, the Maersk Pelican reported fuel savings of 8.2%, equivalent to approximately 1,400 tonnes of CO2. This trial was independently verified by Lloyd’s Register.
- Union Maritime Tankers: Four new product tankers will be fitted with Norsepower Rotor Sails, with additional eight vessels prepared for future retrofitting. This significant investment highlights the technology’s effectiveness and the company’s commitment to sustainable shipping
